It sure is great to be travelling again. We are really enjoying ourselves and we can't wait to see Mom & Dad. We continued our travels down Baja towards La Paz, then decided to take the east side of the loop to Cabo San Lucas and take the west side of the loop when we head back up to Santispac.
|
Although it was great to be in La Paz, it was also a bit
stressful. Our plan was to stay on the outskirts of La Paz. We
planned this carefully so that we did not have to go into La Paz, because
it is a large city and we don't do large cities very well in the
coach... Well, as you can imagine, we missed the turnoff (there was
NO sign there!) and ended up in
downtown La Paz at rush hour. YIKES!! And then we got lost, so we started
asking out the window at stop lights for directions. Finally,
our knight in shinning armor arrived. We called out a man in a
pickup truck stopped next to us "Cabo San Lucas!?!"
and he said, with gusto and enthusiasm, "Cabo San Lucas?, I'm going to
Cabo San Lucas!!, Follow me!!" It was so cute, and we were soooo
thankful, he was a real sweetheart and we followed him right out of the
city... :) |

The trip from La Paz to Los Barriles was beautiful, we travelled
through valleys and The Sierra de la Laguna Mountain Range. We wish we had
left ourselves more time to explore and maybe spend a night in this area.
However, we were excited about getting back to the east coast of the
peninsula and then down to Cabo San Lucas to
meet up with Cindy's parents. |
|
What a hoot, only in Mexico :) We actually saw a lot
of this kind of thing, cows, burrows and horses right along the road.
THIS
is one of the reason you don't want to travel at night! But during the day
it was great to see and we got a real kick out of it. |
|
When we arrived in Los Barriles we camped at an RV park/hotel that was
right at the ocean. This was the bar/pool
area of the hotel... |
|
You can kind of tell we had a long travel day today.
We both look like
we would rather climb into bed than climb into the pool :) |

These next few pictures are for you Tim!! Tim owns
the best restaurant in Victoria, BC, Canada!! And of course it is
called Santiago's. We got engaged in Tim's restaurant on December 5,
1998... If you have not been to
Santiago's Restaurant we highly recommend it, their Nacho's Grande with
pesto is just delicious! :) You can find them at 660 Oswego in
Victoria, BC. |

Our coach was far too large to drive into Santiago, so we
walked in. And are we ever glad we did! Doesn't this gentleman
look like a sweetheart. You see so much more when you are on foot... |
|
|
|
Being from Canada we just love to see palm trees! We
love to take pictures with palm trees in them also, however, we have never
seen anything quite like this before. This was on the main highway
heading into Cabo San Lucas! Two huge palms dragging along the
ground on this huge truck. It was neat to see :) |
|
Cabo is known, in pictures, for it's "Lands End",
the most southern point of the Baja Peninsula. It is
very beautiful to see, somehow the pictures don't quite capture it.
It is incredible to be here in Cabo, knowing that we have now travelled
down the whole length of The Baja Peninsula... |
|
And we could not resist this picture! Hello to
everyone at RE/MAX - Camosun, we miss you!! :) |
|
And finally we get to see Cindy's parents, that is their
cruise ship off in the distance. Now, we just need to find them!! Actually, we planned
our arrival well and met up with them with no problems. We
had a wonderful time with them. However, it was far too short as
their ship was only in port for a few hours. We
were missing them before the day was even over. We love you Mom &
Dad :) |
|
|
|
And this wonderful couple are Pat and Joe of
Victoria, BC, Canada. Mom and Dad travelled down from Los Angeles to
Cabo San Lucas on the Diamond Princess of the Princess Cruise Lines.
We had only one fun filled day with
them, and then they were off and cruising back up the west coast of
Baja.... |
|
We treated Mom & Dad to our favorite Mexican dish,
CARNITAS!! And we all ate far too much and enjoyed every bite of it
:) This meal for four (with leftovers that we took back to the
coach) cost only 220 Pesos, about US$20! |
|
After saying good bye to Mom & Dad, we headed back to our
scooters and saw these people with their catch of the day, a Marlin!!
Look at the size of that fish! |

When we were in Los Barriles, Barry was talking to a
fellow who mentioned that we should go to a place on the west coast called
Los Cerritos. Well, what a surprise this was, it was just gorgeous!
It was right up there as one of the most beautiful places we have
stayed, AND it was FREE!! We like free :) We ended up staying
there for almost a month! As you look at the following pictures, you
will understand why. |
|
|
|
|
|
Our first few nights in Los Cerritos we parked here during
the day, then had to move each evening, since the tide would come close to flooding the low
spot where we parked... |
|
The surfing here is some of the best in Baja! Although we don't surf
we had a great time on our body boards... |

Tiki is just catching up on a little bit of reading.
Actually the International Living publication you see in front of Tiki is
one of our favorite publications. To learn more about International
Living visit their website at

|
While staying at Los Cerritos, we had to shop and get water
in a little town about 5km north of the beach called El Pescadero.
This store
was by far our favorite place to buy Frutas y Verduras, fruits and
vegetables. We would venture to say he had the best and freshest
produce we have had in Mexico so far...delicious! |
|
Isn't his little store cute, neat and tidy, it really
shows how proud he is of his little business. |
|
After a few days we got VERY lucky and we were able to park at the end of this road that leads right up to the beach. We had checked out this area before but there was no space available. Off to the right and left of the road you really needed a four wheel drive to camp there. When we saw the people leaving this spot, we scrambled over to take their spot. That is one of the reasons we stayed so long... This picture actually shows a whole pod of whales out in
the ocean very close to shore. OK, we stand corrected, it is supposed
to show whales, we don't have a zoom lens :) However, it was
incredible, the whales were breaching, and slapping their tales, again and again.
This was the best whale watching we have ever done from a distance.
With the naked eye, and with binoculars you could see them clearly... |

|
This is such a beautiful picture of the sun setting out
over the ocean and the beach...AND with the moon shining brightly way up in
the night sky... ahhhhh life is very good :) |
