Travel Log, July 1st - 31st, 2005
Part 2
For July Part 2 we continue our travels along the coast,
visiting Cuyutlan, Le Ticla and Faro De Bucerias. We also work our way
through two more of the states of Mexico, Colima and Michoacan. One of the other
reasons we travel so much in this month is because we were warned to be careful
in these two states. We were careful, but had no trouble whatsoever.
Both states we passed through quickly, both states had friendly people, both
states had beautiful scenery as you will see. We hope to go back to this
area and explore it further. There were a few places people recommended we
check out and we either did not get to them at all or we just visited them for
part of a day.
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico This is the beach at Cuyutlan, we got there so early in the morning that they had
not even set up yet. Later in the day the beach would be full of vendors
and visitors. Notice how dark brown the sand is, the sand gets so
hot that they put these wooden slats down for people to walk on. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico We took some time to stroll around this cute little town, although it
was almost deserted because of the time of day. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico What a beautiful restaurant inside this hotel. It was all open
air, no walls or windows, very neat. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico Often, when we visit town squares there are statues, and more often than
not there is one of Benito Juarez. He was the President of Mexico in
1861 and was largely responsible for the economic and educational reform
after the Spanish and French were defeated. During this time the
railroad was constructed between Mexico City and Veracruz and a rural
police force was established to secure the transport of cargo throughout
Mexico. He is a well respected 'hero' in Mexican history as
evidenced by the number of 'Benito's' that we see. In addition,
almost every Mexican city, town and tiny village has an 'Av Juarez'. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico Aren't these brooms great. We see them used all over Mexico and
we just love them :) They look like they are made of twigs... |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico In the main downtown of this town it was spotless, this gentleman is
racking sand on the streets and we saw others doing the same thing. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico Hmmm wonder what is in those pots. You see this kind
of thing all of the time. Usually there are tamales, tacos, and
fixen's. And they are homemade and delicious. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico From one extreme to the other. |
|
Cuyutlan, Colima, Mexico Here is something we just love and keep forgetting to mention.
This is a gas truck. They drive all around the towns with a loud
speaker proclaiming "El Gas" or more like "ELLLLL GAAAAAAS!!" You can
here them for blocks, sometimes they also have music playing, but more
often not they just keep repeating "El Gas"...it is so cute and we grin
each time we here them. |
|
Traveling south along the coast in the state of Colima, Mexico This highway in the state of Colima was gorgeous. We are sure we
have mentioned how narrow some of the roads are in Mexico. Well, this
one was freshly paved, and painted, it was a divided highway, it actually had a
shoulder and guard rails on the corners, AND it was four lanes!! In short
it was wonderful to drive on. |

|
Traveling south along the coast in the state of Michoacan, Mexico We have now left the tiny state of Colima and have entered the state of
Michoacan. Look at that gorgeous coast line! |
|
Traveling south along the coast in the state of Michoacan, Mexico We stopped at this great view point, the view each way up and down the
coast was just gorgeous. |
|
Traveling south along the coast in the state of Michoacan, Mexico There was this huge shrine there, almost the size of a small home, it
had fresh flowers and lit candles in it so we know people had been there
recently. |

|
Traveling south along the coast in the state of Michoacan, Mexico Sorry if this picture disturbs you, however, we must mention that due
to the road kill we are able to see rattle snakes, armadillos and iguanas,
for example, up close like never before. We don't have these in
Canada so it is interesting, at least to us, to be able to see them up close. |

|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico Our friends Norma & Mark suggested that we check out a place called
La Ticla, we were rushed because of the weather, so we did not stay over
night, we had to press on. However, we are glad we had a chance to go and
visit for part of the day. |
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico Some of the residents of La Ticla. You often see children wheeled
around in wheel barrows, or propped on bikes, and you can tell they are
totally comfortable and used to it. It is really cute to see.
|
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico We had to stop and wait for these cows to head back home to the fields.
It was just great to see them up close. |
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico These two little children were walking along the road and offered a
friendly wave...look how cute, relaxed and happy they look...see next
photo also. |
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico Isn't she precious! |
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico Note the viaduct running along the side of the road, it was so neat,
each residence had a little foot bridge leading to their home. The
pride in some of the homes and landscaping was wonderful. You could
tell they had very little in the way of material possessions, but
they had a lot of pride in their homes. |
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico This was the actual RV Park that Norma and Mark recommended, the timing
was just not right for us to stay their over night, maybe next time. |
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico
|
|
La Ticla, Michoacan, Mexico Take note of some things here: the tile roof, the stick construction,
the wonderfully uneven fence made of larger braches AND the handsome
burrow. What a wonderful place to call home. |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico This is the entrance road leading into Faro de Bucerias, and it is
worth pointing out that Michoacan must have been doing a lot of
construction recently, as a number of the towns along the coast had these wonderful
roads. They were constructed with alternating cement and cobble
stone lanes. They were just
great and must have been a lot of work to build. We figure that
they probably only had dirt roads before, as there were still lots of towns
the
still only had dirt roads. |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico The town square in Faro de Bucerias. As you probably remember and
figured out by now, there is a lighthouse that we want to see in this
town. |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico At this particular site, we did not have much of an ocean view.
However, the ocean was steps away and we had a lot of beach to explore and
walk. The bay at this location was just gorgeous, and the waves were
HUGE. We really enjoy our stay here...enjoy the pictures! |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico Just outside of the coach there was a pile of logs, and on the logs
were these huge snails, they had to be at least 2-3 inches long!. |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico Look at those waves and the beautiful blue colour where the waves are
cresting... |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico You can see the light house up on the hill in the distance. We
had a really nice hike up there, and we were able to look back down the
beach and see a beautiful view of the bay. |

Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico This was on our hike up to the light house, look at that gorgeous view. |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico In the cactus there was a bees nest. Or at least that is what we
figure it was. It was about 1.5 ft long. |
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico
|
|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico Part of the trail up to the lighthouse was on a road, and as you can
see parts of the road were washed out from the recent heavy rains.
Last night we had a beautiful thunder and lightening show, and we got a
lot of rain. |

|
Faro de Bucerias, Michoacan, Mexico It is might be hard to tell, but we are up very high here. Look
at the colour of that water! It was just beautiful up at the lighthouse
and we are so glad we decided to go for our hike. |
