Travel Log, July 1st - 31st, 2005
Part 4
Here we are, still in the month of July and on Part 4 of our Travel Log already,
with many more parts to come. We had a very busy month as mentioned
before. For this segment we share our day in Zihuatanejo with you.
As mentioned in the last travel log, our good friends Chin and Fabian suggested
we visit here. We are sure glad we did, we had a great day and bought some
more hankies, it is HOT!
We also travelled to a turtle sanctuary called Piedra
Tlacoyunque in the State of Guerrero and then continued our travels down towards
Acapulco. We hope you enjoy the ride...
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico We parked the coach in the shade on a side street, put fans on and opened windows (in a way that limits how far the window can be opened - for security...) for Tiki. It was just too hot to take him all around town with us. He happily slept in the coach while we were gone. But don't tell him that we told you that. He thinks it's his job to guard the coach while we are gone. With the windows, we use this great 'tried and true' method of opening them wide enough for air, but not wide enough to climb into and then securing them with a flat piece of wood in the window groove. Works great! |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico This man and his daughter were bringing their fish to the market to be
sold. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico Fresh fish at the market daily. Look at the one woman watching
Barry take the photo and the other one further down saying a friendly "Hola"
to Cindy. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico We can't help but be healthy here in Mexico. Look at all the
fresh fruit and vegetables! |

|
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico We get a kick out of this kind of thing. Someone was selling there wares, in this case, fruit from this wheel barrow lined with a pretty plastic table cloth. Notice the 'cool' young man waiting for customers outside of the cell
phone store. He did not know he was in the picture. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico We get a kick out of this also... there are stores all along the
street, and
often times the owners homes are attached. Most of the time they're
attached in behind the stores and in some
cases we see this roof top type shack added on. We joke around and
say it's for the mother-in-law or the teenager :) |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico Isn't it pretty here? |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico What a great place for this gentleman to ride his bike, right through
the square along the waters edge. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico This was a happening spot, with swimmers, boaters, fisherman chatting
in the shade, the government dock in the distance and a marina along side
the dock. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico We have shown you this sort of thing previously, Mexican men strolling along,
playing music for anyone that will give them a few pesos. It is
really sweet and they are usually very good. These three happily
posed for us and even strummed a few bars. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico We walked by a fishing charter place and had a chat with an American
owner, he was really nice and offered to take our picture. We don't
often get full length pictures of the two of us in one shot, so we jumped
at the chance. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico This is the government dock and the marina...so pretty and clean. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico This is where they hang, weigh and take pictures of the catch of the
day! |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico Cindy heads for the shade. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico These tourist shops were set up as far as the eye could see. In
the first shop, a patron gave us a friendly two handed wave and hello. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico In the older parts of town, the parts we love best, it is probably wise
to use your bike as a mode of transportation. We would never have
been able to take the coach down this street! |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico The area around this bridge was very nicely painted and landscaped.
The bridge crosses over a river, just a short distance from the beach.
Actually, the river is a cement 'canal' to contain the runoff waters after
a big rain. There was no water in it when we were there... |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico
|
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico There's that 'river' we were telling you about... |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico There was a very pretty walkway all along the waters edge, we walked
quite a while... |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico Near the end of the walkway, we saw these two friendly policemen.
We may never get accustomed to those guns. Although with a smile like that,
we felt quite comfortable asking them if we could take their picture. |
|
Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico Well, that's it for our wonderful day in Zihuatanejo. We really enjoyed
ourselves here and would like to come back and spend some more time here in
the future. |
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico We are now continuing our travels towards Acapulco. We came across this little town, saw this fellow and his 'store' at the side of the road and just had to stop. He was so ingenious to set up his stand where you had to slow down for the Tope (speed bump, see it on the road?), that we thought we would give him our business over the many other vendors. We found out
they were selling coconut candies. We couldn't resist and bought a
jar. |
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico These candies were made and packaged right here in this little town.
Here you see one man whacking off the shell of the coconut with his machete
and the other man was cleaning off all the last bits with his
knife and rinsing them in his bucket of water. Very cool!. |
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico Yummy!! They were so fresh and delicious, once we had one we had
a really hard time stopping, and skipped a meal that day, because we could
not control ourselves. I guess you know what one of our weaknesses
is. |
|

|
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico Notice how lush and green everything is. It is still very hot,
but it rains in the evenings now and the landscape is so pretty. |
|
Piedra Tlacoyunque, Guerrero, Mexico Here is the turtle sanctuary we mentioned in the intro above. It
is called Piedra Tlacoyunque. Isn't it just gorgeous here? We
spent part of the day walking the beach and letting Tiki run in the sand
and roll around in the water. We all had a great time. |

Piedra Tlacoyunque, Guerrero, Mexico Aren't the rock formations neat? |

|
|
Piedra Tlacoyunque, Guerrero, Mexico There was an old lighthouse here, that is obviously no longer in use,
however, it worth taking some pictures of. |

|
|
Piedra Tlacoyunque, Guerrero, Mexico We couldn't resist taking a picture of the contrast between the
beautiful view and the pile of garbage. What a shame. Oh
well...the garbage is not what you notice when you arrive at this
beautiful spot. |
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico We thought it would be neat to show you this "open" Coca Cola truck.
They travel along the highway just like you see them here, this one was
passing us. |
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico Isn't this a neat shot, and taken in 2005! Not in the 1800"s.
|
|
Heading south towards Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico Look at all of those beautiful hammocks!! |
| Well, that's it for this segment of our Travel Log.
