Part 10
Ok, believe it or not we are now on Part 10 of the month of July. All
that we can think of is that we were in so much of a hurry to get off the coast,
that we forgot to slow down when we got to the interior :)
For this part of the update we share with you our incredible visit to the
Cathedral in Puebla. We finish up our stay in Cholula and we travel to a
wonderful colonial town called Tlaxcala.
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico THIS is the front of the cathedral in Puebla, words cannot begin to describe what this church was like, especially on the inside. We have never ever seen anything like it. We were told this church was designed for Mexico City but some mistake was made and it ended up in Puebla. Take a look at these pictures as closely as you can... On the picture above notice on every single massive fence post their is
a small bronze angel. Notice the height of the towers (the tallest
in Mexico), the number of
bells in the towers, and the size of the cathedral! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico On this photo, notice the statues embedded in the walls, the size of the
doors (see the people, just inside) and the huge columns... |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico Notice the height of the people compared to the height of the ceiling!!
Notice the massive columns, archways, domes and windows... |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico Notice the first of three magnificent pipe organs, the ornate trimmings and
detailed ceilings! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico Notice the wonderful balconies, beautiful paintings and the backside of
another pipe organ... |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico A closer look at the ceilings! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico Trying to show the height and breadth of one of the columns, and more of the ceilings! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico The front of the largest, newest and most impressive pipe organ of the
three. Notice you can see people down below, at floor level. That gives you
and idea of how high up the organ is, and how tall it was. |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico We got a kick out of how tall and old these ladders were! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico In this one you see the third and most beautiful pipe organ. You
also see just how huge & beautiful this cathedral was! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico A close up of the most beautiful pipe organ! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico The main dome in the cathedral! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico One of the alters...there were probably at least ten alters in this
magnificent building! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico Another impressive alter...that main painting probably stands around 30
ft tall!! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico This is where the choir sits... |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico This is a closer shot of the main dome and chandelier, the chandelier
was probably about 12 ft in diameter...it was BIG!! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico This was the main alter. Look carefully it is something else... |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico This structure, above, sat right up on the main alter, words cannot
begin to describe it! |
|
Puebla, Puebla, Mexico Another shot of the structure on the main alter, from another angle...exceptionally beautiful! If you ever get a chance to visit central Mexico, we cannot stress
enough how impressed we were with Puebla, with it's impressive colonial
buildings and magnificent church. We hope you have enjoyed the tour. |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico Our sweet boy is tired. Tiki having a nap on one of the front
seats. Just to refresh your memory, we stayed at an RV Park in
Cholula, and from their we took a bus into Puebla for the day. We
are now back in Cholula. |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico We went to a Carniceria to get some fresh meat, normally chicken or
chorizo. This time we bought some of those long loops of
chorizo...delicious! |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico We were walking to the market one day when we saw this truck pull up.
The back of the truck was loaded down with more green onions than we had
ever seen in one place. Isn't this a priceless shot? |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico We stayed at this RV Park for over a week and we are just now getting
around to taking a picture of it. It was very plain, but within
walking distance to Cholula so it worked out really well for us. |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico If it was a different time of the year, the restaurant and pool would
have been open and there would have been other RVer's around. The
cars you see parked here are for the little motel she runs on the same
premises as the RV Park. |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico This is the lady that runs the RV Park, her name was Rosalia, she took
a liking to Tiki. When we were preparing to leave she gave us a
beautiful Mexican plate (made in Puebla), what a sweetheart. |
|
Cholula, Puebla, Mexico This was the security guard and his dog. He lived in
a very tiny shack at the entrance to the property. He could not have
stood more than 4' 2" tall. He was so cute and so kind, his name was
Cecilo. |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico We have now traveled to Tlaxcala and we really enjoyed this beautiful
colonial town. We parked on the outskirts and took a Colectivo into
town. We will discuss later what a Colectivo is... |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico Notice the neat tile work on the side of the church. This huge
bell reminded us of something. The person ringing the bell in the
tower of this church was very
exuberant. So much so, that we pulled out our binoculars and looked from
the coach towards the church to see if we could see what he was doing.
It was hilarious! He would stand right up under the bell (he had
to be deaf), and ring them, and ring them and play all these tunes, and
just when you thought he was done, he would throw one more in for good
measure. And that would get him going again. It was so funny, we
think he bonged a few screws loose :) |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico This was inside that same church. |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico Now, we are in downtown Tlaxcala, what a pretty place. On the
Mexican flag is the symbol you see here. It is just beautiful, we
see it depicted in paintings and other places. This is by far the
best depiction of it that we have seen yet. You are actually looking at the
back side of it in this shot, towards the Palacio Legislativo. Wait until you see
the front... |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico We asked this guy if he knew where the bano's were. He did not
hesitate to tell us. Thank you Mr. |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico This is the interior of the Palacio Legislativo building. It is
so pretty, but wait until you see the stained glass on the ceiling! |
|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico Isn't that spectacular!! And it was huge. |
![]() Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico This is the front of that statue, look at the detail, really well done.
An eagle, who has caught a snake, perched on a cactus... Next time you see a Mexican flag take note of the design. |

|
Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico The inside of THIS building will astound you! First of all look
at those massive wooden doors! Then enjoy the murals painted on
walls, painted by Desiderio Hernandez Xochitiotzin depicting the history
of Tlaxcala... Very beautiful! |
