Travel Log, August 1st - 31st, 2005
Part 5
Without further adieu... We will continue of tour of Teotihuacan...
Enjoy...
This building was very interesting. Lots of things to see, from the
statue to the right of the stairs, to the murals inside... We found
ourselves captivated by it's beauty... |
Hard to believe that this paint could last all these years... It IS
the original paint! |
The inner courtyard was in remarkably good shape...especially the
decorative pieces on
top of the facade... |
It is remarkable that even the black onyx in they eye is still
there... |
We are slowly making our way toward the Pyramid of the Moon...
Climbing the Pyramid of the Moon...
Look at that wonderful view of the all of the structures, including the
Pyramid of the Sun and the Avenue of the Dead... Incredible!! |
After all that climbing and exploring, we sure are looking forward to some
lunch! :) |
As much as we love Prickly Pears, that won't sustain us for all that is to
come on our tour of Teotihuacan... |
After lunch we start our exploring again. We are now at the Palacio Tepantitla... and again, it is so amazing that after all this time there is still any paint on the walls...
Walking by the Pyramid of the Sun on our way to the Museum...
Aren't you just 'urning' to travel to Mexico? |
The museum was wonderful, and this room was really outstanding.
At one end of the room was a glass wall, framing the Pyramid of the Sun... beautiful.
And there is a glass walkway over the huge, wall to wall, model of the
entire site. It certainly gives you an idea of how huge this site is and how many
structures there are. |
Click on the movie link above to see a short clip of
this massive scale model and glass floor across the top of it. After
matching the movie clip in the new window that opens, just close that
window to return here... |
When excavating the site they found this mass grave. The
incandescent lights give this photo a strange color, I suppose I could
have change a setting on the camera... Oooops... |
This statue was interesting as it shows a child inside of the opening, we
guess it was no secret where babies came from! |
At all of the tourist places you will find Mexican's selling their
wares... sometimes what they sell is very beautiful and very
inexpensive... sometimes it is just cheap replicas, and junky... |
As we may have mentioned in the past, as the centuries go
by, new structures are built over and around the older structures. Here is
a good example of that happening as we see a new floor of the courtyard
and new facings on the stairs.. |
There was still a lot of excavations and restorations going on in this
area, at the far end of the site. |
Notice the heads on either side of the stairs.... |
If you are on our Archeological Tour, follow
this link to Tula... |
| Well, that concludes our tour of Teotihaucan.
This was a very impressive site and we highly recommend you visit it if
you ever get the chance. Go early and be prepared to spend the
entire day there....
