Part 9
Hi everyone... With the closing words from the last update, let us proceed
immediately...
This is the main Zocalo in Guanajuato. It was unusual in that it was
smaller than you would expect and in the shape of a triangle. |
This is the University of Guanajuato. It was huge and we saw a lot
of students around this area. |
We had read in the Lonely Planet Guidebook about the narrowest of the many
narrow alleys that lead up though Guanajuato... This is the 'Alley of the
Kiss', where the balconies nearly touch. Legend says that at one
time a fine family lived on this alley and their daughter fell in love
with a common miner. They were not allowed to see each other, but
the miner rented a room across the alley and they exchanged kisses from
one balcony to the other. Sadly, they were discovered and their
romance ended tragically, details are sketchy.. |
Even though this photo was out of focus, we decide to include it because it
was so romantic... The alley worked well for us and we were not
discovered... |
These are the actual balconies.
Cindy can reach over and touch her balcony from his balcony... There
would have been no keeping those two apart... |
Indeed, a narrow alley... |

The market in Guanajuato was magnificent, both inside and out! |

This shot shows just how huge the building was! |
When we entered the gates of this cemetery we saw things we had never seen
before... |
It was unbelievable, like a maze of walls and pathways, the pictures don't come close to depicting just how huge it was. |
Click on the movie link above to see a short clip of this cemetery. After watching the movie clip in the new window that opens, just close that window to return here...

We thought that was the most interesting place we would see today... until we entered the Museum
of the Mummies... |

And that's all we've got to say about that... |
One day we decided to go and visit the 'Museo Ex-Hacienda, San Gabriel de
Barreraex', it was beautiful! |

| We cannot say it enough... If you ever get the chance to
visit central Mexico, you simply MUST visit Guanajuato!! And we are
pleased to inform you we are not finished our wonderful tour of Guanajuato
yet. In the next segment, we hop on our scooters and take a ride around the
'periferico' to see Guanajuato from above. We had a great day!
