Travel Log, August 1st - 31st, 2005
Part 10
We will now travel around the outskirts of Guanajuato on a roadway high above
the city, called the 'Periferico'.
As mentioned before, Guanajuato dammed their river. Here is a section that
was dammed to make a lake... |
Here was the spillway by the lake that was dammed. |
We had heard there was an old mine, so on our tour around the periferico,
we watched for the road leading to the mine... |
It is a bit far away, but if you look closely on the large rock you will
see someone has painted an image of Jesus. |
Looking back with Guanajuato in the distance... |
We found the mine, but it was blocked off and so we could not enter.
However, we decided to secure the scooters and continue up the road to see
what we might find... |
We understand this church was built for the miners...
Our timing could not have been better, the caretaker of this land was just
taking his goats back to pasture, what a site to see :) |
We continued right up to the outer part of the mine... |
Gorgeous view when we were heading back down. Hmmm.. those clouds are
looking a bit ominous. |
With a bit more exploring, we found the main dam... Very impressive. We
would have walked over but the clouds were telling us to head home. |
Back out on the periferico heading back to the motorhome. |
