| We are VERY happy to be back in Mexico and our first destination is
the city of Zacatecus. We enjoy our stay here so much that we take a
break from our travels and stay for a couple of weeks. We stay in the northern part of
the city of Zacatecus, at an RV Park located beside a Pemex. It
only costs us US$4.00 per day, with electricity, water and sewer connections... You just can't beat that. We head
into the city of Zacatecus on a number of occasions and have a great time. Then, after our time here,
we hightail it south... |
|
Nuevo Leon, Mexico Ahhhh, it is so good to be back in Mexico! Look at
that rainbow... |
|
Nuevo Leon, Mexico Cindy was running around taking photos of the rainbow, at
the Pemex Station where we were going to boondock for the night, when she
noticed another great photo opportunity!
North of Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico After all of this serious travelling we are looking
forward to a nice break. We are now heading south to Zacatecas, little did
we know we would end up staying for two weeks... |
|
North of Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico Here we are again, crossing the Tropic of Cancer... How many
times is it now... five times!! What a hoot! Cindy is a Cancer and
figures she should celebrate her birthday, with presents and cake, each
time we cross. However, she changed her mind when she figured out
how old that would make her :) |
|
North of Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico A bit of shade for this beauty...
|
|
Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico Here we are at the Pemex RV Park and for most of the month we
are by ourselves. However, for a few days we shared the park with a nice
fellow from the US and his Mexican wife. They were from Aguascalientes, just south of
here... The guy pictured with Barry in this photo, just stopped by
for a visit, hoping to practice his English. He likes to read
English magazines and paperbacks, so we passed on some that we were
finished with... including a Nora Roberts novel. |
|
Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico This was a wonderful place for Tiki, as we were in a
compound. He could run and play freely and never have to be on his
leash... he just loved it! |
|
Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico The fruit of this cactus comes in two colours and is
called "Prickly Pears". When we first tried it, we sort of liked it,
but there were so many seeds to spit out, we didn't try much more
than a taste. However, when we met the nice couple from Aguascalientes, they explained how to eat them. You just slurp up
the seeds, fruit and all, and just swallow it. We ate so many
after that, we just loved them, they are delicious! |
|
Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico The next series of photos are from Zacatecas. |

Travelling through Michoacan, Mexico
We are merrily travelling along and then we come to this huge traffic jam.
There are cars lined up for miles, all just crawling along. We are
sure there has been a serious accident. Nope... When we finally see the
cause of the traffic jam, we have a good chuckle. The highway is lined with vendors
selling everything from trinkets and toys to clothes and food. No
one seems to mind that traffic is down to a crawl right through this
section... |
|
Laguna Cuitzeo, Michoacan, Mexico This area was really pretty with the highway travelling
right down the center of the laguna. |
|
Laguna Cuitzeo, Michoacan, Mexico
|
|
North of Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico Most of the time, we travel on the smaller Mexican highways. There's more to see and the pace is more to our liking. However, we are anxious to get to the south-west coast of Mexico to resume travels in areas that we have not yet visited. So, we decided to make use of Mexico's freeway system, the Autopista's. They are toll highways, which we usually don't take (for various reasons) but in this case we'll make good use of them to take us all the way to Acapulco.
|
|
Highlands of Michoacan, Mexico Notice the fields of purple flowers!! They went on
for miles... |
|
Highlands of Michoacan, Mexico ... and these little piggies went to market... |
|
Approaching Puente Mezcala Solidaridad, Guerrero, Mexico Notice the huge bridge in the background. This large bridge
crosses the Rio Mezcala, one of the biggest along this route. |
|
Puente Quetzalapa, Guerrero, Mexico What a view! |
| Well, that's it for September. We have successfully travelled all the way up
north and back down through the central
highlands of Mexico. Central Mexico, as we have mentioned before, was
such a surprise. Full of culture, beauty and friendly people.
If you ever get the chance go and visit some of our favourite places in
Central Mexico, you will be so glad you did!! In the month of October, we continue to Acapulco, then, we pick our way across southern Mexico. We visit some incredible places and ruins while we work our way through the mountains of Chiapas to the Yucatan and over to Belize. Hope to see you there!!
