This update will give you a good cross section of
the people places and things we did while we lived in Corozal Town,
Belize.
Corozal Town, Belize
No one would dare step foot in that motorhome with that guard
dog there!! Don't you see him, he's right there by the
door mat! Tiki loved all of the space to run and play.
However, within a few weeks, we knew we needed a more private and
quieter place to live for our one year stay. So we went out with
camera, pen and paper to see if we could find another location.
Corozal Town, Belize
We fell in love with an area just south of Corozal, on the
edge of town. So we walked down the length of Almond Drive and Bayshore
Drive to find properties that might work. The following pictures
were our top picks, places that we thought we might be able to
set up the motorhome and enjoy the breeze off of Corozal Bay.
This lot looked promising, complete with fence and very secure.
Corozal Town, Belize
Here's another picture of this lot, it's very long and deep.
There is a
cement pad and a little tiny structure. We will have to find
out what the story is on this one for sure!
Corozal Town, Belize
Wow, this lot is beautiful. It is large & flat with
beautiful palms and a gorgeous view... Looks promising, but no security or services. We will have to
find out more...
Corozal Town, Belize
Another beautiful lot. We heard the owner only comes
here for a couple of weeks each year. Maybe we could park here and
keep an eye on things for her...
We will tell you more, in a few minutes, about the location
we chose and why...
Corozal Town, Belize
This is Stitch, the guard dog at Caribbean Village RV Park.
He was a great guard dog but a real barker. One night he
started barking around 3 am and barked and barked and did not
stop. In the morning, we found out someone had tied up their horse
to the fence on the side of the road, and left it there to graze
until the next day. That drove Stitch crazy!
Barry finally went out with one of the Menzie's children and
walked the horse down the road a bit and tied it to a fence post
further down... :)
Corozal Town, Belize
We told you we were slow with taking pictures when we first
got to Belize, so we don't even have a picture of the owners of the
RV Park, Henry and Joan.
However, this is grandfather Ernest, son Donovan and handyman
Fernando.
Corozal Town, Belize
And this is the beautiful lot we chose!! 154 Almond
Drive became our home for the next thirteen months. We inquired
with
a neighbour to find out who owned the lot and how we could get in
touch with them. We dropped by to visit with Yvonne and Yuseff,
the owners. They are wonderful people and agreed to not only rent
the lot to us, but to fence off the section by the sea, do some painting and
put a new roof on the little cabaņa.
We were thrilled!!
Corozal Town, Belize
In the town hall in downtown Corozal, we were fortunate to
see a display set up by Coca Cola. Each country contributed a
piece depicting their country and Coca Cola. This is what Belize
put together...
Corozal Town, Belize
One of the things we did was to put a driveway on the lot
so that we could drive the motorhome off and on without sinking into
the soft earth.
This is our good friend Domingas. He delivered all kinds of things
for us over the course of the year, including a washing machine,
lumber, cement blocks, etc. He also took away a ton of debris
after we cut back and landscaped the lot.

Our sweet sweet Tiki!! They just don't come any
cuter.
Corozal Town, Belize
A lot of the homes in Belize are built of wood and are up
on stilts. This beauty had a sign by the front door,
'For Rent' :)
Corozal Town, Belize
We love to explore on our scooters, and we would drive all over
the place looking around. One day, we decided to try and find
our friends Tony and Monika. They had given
us directions and it was in an area we were unfamiliar with.
We had a great time and did eventually find them. We came
across this man tending to his Papaya Trees... There are
numerous papaya plantations in the area and all the fruit from these
operations is exported to The States...

This is our gorgeous lot in Belize. The motorhome is parked
on a basketball court. Yes, that's right, a basketball
court! The Amahad's used
this lot like a back yard. They and their children had
parties and barbeques here in the past. However, now that the
children have grown and gone, they do not use the lot as much as
they before. They made it very clear to us that they were
not interested in selling it. Well, all we wanted to do was
rent it, so that worked out just great.
As it turned out, it was a perfect match. The little
cabana had an outside kitchen, a small bathroom and a shower with
storage room. We bought a washer and converted the shower to
a laundry room. There was water, electricity and even a
septic tank for our sewer connection.
With a few modifications and upgrades we were set!

Our east facing front yard. With a beautiful view of
Corozal Bay and steady cooling breezes from the sea.
New River, Belize
These are our good friends Tim &
Pam, we had lots of laughs and good times with them.
Cindy and Pam cycled almost daily and often joined in the aqua
fitness routines over at our friends Jim & Melanie's place.
This day we went to see the ruins at Cerros. In order to
get across the new river we had to take a hand cranked ferry!!

Cerros was a nice site, however, much of
it was unexcavated at the time.

Cerros, Belize
What an amazing career this fellow has! However, it must be daunting
to think ahead and realize all of the work still to be done.
They work so hard to preserve their history and prepare these
sights for people to enjoy and learn.
Cerros, Belize
Cerros was built right on the shore of
Corozal Bay, across from where Corozal Town is now located.

We were so fortunate to get to know
the Coke delivery man, his name was Dano. We were
honored to be asked to his son Danny's first birthday party!
These were parents and in laws of Dano and his wife.
Corozal Town, Belize
Adorable!! These Mayan ladies are
sisters, and they are VERY very short. They taught us a few
words in the Mayan language and had a great laugh at our
mispronunciations.

This is our very good friend Dano
and his birthday boy Danny!
Corozal Town, Belize
The first birthday of a child is
very special to people in Belize, and it really was something
special that
we were invited to be there with all of their family and friends.
They played lots of games, the children and adults loved the
piņata.
Corozal Town, Belize
This is Dano's wife and son... very nice family.
